Which plywood to choose for formwork
The face coating decides how many pours a sheet survives; the thickness decides how much load it carries
Plywood types
Film-faced (laminated)
Birch plywood with a phenolic film on both faces. It does not absorb water, concrete does not stick, and the finish comes out smooth.
Reuse: up to 50 pours
Typical use: Slabs, walls, columns; smooth concrete finish
Uncoated FSF
Water-resistant birch plywood bonded with phenol-formaldehyde glue. Cheaper than film-faced, but needs release agent before every pour.
Reuse: up to 25 pours
Typical use: Foundations, outdoor work, jobs with few pours
Birch (FK)
Standard birch plywood with urea glue. It does not tolerate long exposure to moisture, so it suits one-off tasks.
Reuse: up to 15 pours
Typical use: One-off structures, embeds, filler pieces
Thickness: 18 or 21 mm

18 mm suits most jobs and is easier to handle. 21 mm is used for heavy loads. We will match the exact thickness and beam spacing to your project.

How a plywood sheet becomes a working formwork face

Match plywood to the load
The slab thickness or wall height sets the concrete pressure, which decides the sheet thickness and support spacing.

Plan the cuts
Panels are laid out to cut as few full sheets as possible: a 2500×1250 mm sheet fits beams at 500 or 625 mm centres with no waste.

Seal the edges
Every cut edge is sealed right away with edge sealant or paint. An open edge soaks up water and the sheet delaminates within a few pours.

Fix to the frame
For slabs, plywood sits on H20 timber beams on props; for walls and columns it is screwed to panels or walers with countersunk screws.

Apply release agent
A formwork release agent lets the concrete come away cleanly and extends the sheet's life. Uncoated plywood always needs it.

Strip and clean
Once the concrete has gained strength, sheets are stripped without hitting the edges, scraped clean and stored flat under cover.

A 1250×2500 mm sheet of film-faced plywood costs from ₴2,400 (18 mm) or ₴2,500 (21 mm); uncoated plywood is priced on request. Renting beats buying when you need plywood for one site and for less than a few months. When you buy new, you can trade in your old plywood.
